You know what got me? The couple. The hand on the shoulder, the tired woman, the concerned eyes, the moment when she looked up and their eyes met and something transferred that you could see from across the room. I lost my breath reading that part because I realized you were watching love do its actual work. Not the greeting card version or the wedding vow version. The kind that shows up in a cancer center on a sunny day when one person is exhausted and the other person's hand is steady and warm. That's it. That's the whole thing. And you saw it and named it without making it precious or sentimental. Just, love did that. Three words.
