Made For Honor
Every day.
I heard a new phrase today that I intend to keep in my heart for all time. Made For Honor.
A friend of mine told me a story this morning of a wedding she had recently attended at which the bride had chosen her younger sister as her Maid of Honor. It clearly showed they have a special bond, both as sisters and as friends. To have a connection like that is special indeed. Where the story takes an extra special turn is in the wording of the phrase Maid of Honor. In her overwhelming joy and excitement of having this special role in her big sister’s wedding, the younger sister had lost the proper terminology. She spent the day referring to herself as Maid For Honor. She would proudly and gleefully announce herself as that often throughout the day.
I suppose without some clarification you might be confused by her declaration. I hesitate to add what many would consider the “reason” for her choice of words. She has Down Syndrome. Now that I’ve mentioned that, this is where we all nod and think, “That makes more sense, how sweet/cute.” I admit, that was my first thought also. But what if it was more than that? What if she truly knew her own worth? What if she knew it to be true every day, not just that one?
Of course she was Maid Made For Honor. Each of us is Made For Honor. Every single one of us.
The real Joy and lesson of this story is that both sisters recognized that about each other. They knew it, they lived it, and they demonstrated it that day for all to see. How absolutely beautiful!
And in these hours since hearing this story, I’ve been thinking about how we see ourselves and each other. Do we see ourselves as Made For Honor? Do we see our families, our friends, the people we pass on the street as Made For Honor? I know I, for one, don‘t live this way often enough.
The smile on my friend’s face, as she told me about these sisters, was proof that witnessing that kind of Joy, Love, and Respect towards others can also take root inside our own hearts and bloom.
I don't want to just witness it, I want to live it! I want to remember it holds true for me, and it holds true for you also.
You are Made For Honor.
I am Made For Honor.
We are all Made For Honor.
Let’s let it take root in our hearts and bloom into the world.

I love this. What a wonderful world this could be if we saw the value of another at all times in all circumstances. Thanks for the reminder to keep trying our best to do so. ❤️
How wonderful! Truth appears in the most amazing ways and this one was a pure delight. Thank you for sharing!
